Final Date Set for SODA Migration, ICON Network to Shut Down End of 2026

May 25, 2026

TL;DR

|

Full Story

  • ICON Network shuts down on December 31, 2026. The chain will be permanently halted. A read-only archive will be made available for historical transaction lookups.

  • The final ICX → SODA migration deadline is December 31, 2026. After this date, ICX can no longer be migrated.

  • Token migration becomes one-way from September 30, 2026. From that day, only ICX → SODA swaps will be supported.

New beginnings, continuing the mission

SODAX is infrastructure for modern money. a cross-network execution and liquidity system that already coordinates transactions across 18 networks. A year has passed since the initial proposal to migrate to SODAX and begin the rebrand, we built a Layer 1 because we had to. SODAX continues the mission.

When ICON launched in 2017, there was no infrastructure available to connect blockchains, settle value across them, and let users move freely between networks. So ICON built its own Layer 1 and pioneered standards like BTP and xCall.

Nine years later, the industry has matured. Settlement is no longer the bottleneck. Liquidity, user experience and execution is. The migration to SODAX repositions the project to answer these emerging needs. The SODAX execution system is live, settling transactions across the liquidity of 18+ blockchain networks.

Shutting down the ICON Network is the final move in completing the transition. Maintaining a Layer 1 that no longer serves the mission would only fragment focus and capital. Closing it lets us put every resource into the products that real users and builders are already adopting.

The full schedule

  • May 2026: A governance vote will be created for validators to approve the proposed network shutdown, formally retiring ICON on December 31, 2026.

  • September 30, 2026: Two-way token migration ends with only ICX → SODA supported.

  • December 31, 2026: Final ICX → SODA migration deadline and ICON Network shutdown.

If you hold ICX, the next steps are simple:

  • Ensure you have a small balance of S on the Sonic network for future transactions. You can do this on SODA Exchange.

  • Migrate to SODA on the SODA Exchange by December 31, 2026.

What SODAX has shipped since the rebrand

This is not a closing chapter, SODAX has already begun to position itself as infrastructure for modern money, through robust intent-based infrastructure ready for developers across 18 networks. All key infrastructure has made the migration from the ICON Network, alongside continued partnerships and recent acceptance to the Circle alliance. Below are only a selection of the milestones for SODAX so far as we continue to build the financial rails for cryptoassets, stablecoins and RWAs.

  • Partners are actively executing through SODAX, with recent integrations including Bound Exchange (formerly radFi) and Houdini Swap. Cross-network exchange, lending, and borrowing are being routed on behalf of real applications today.

  • SODAX SDK v2 has shipped a leaner, agent-ready integration surface designed for both human developers and AI agents to add cross-network features in days. The full documentation is queryable through the Builders MCP.

  • The SODAX Money Market is open, letting partners offer lending and borrowing on top of cross-network exchange from a single integration. Liquidity depth has stepped up alongside it: ICON's Network-Owned Liquidity has migrated into SODAX Protocol-Owned Liquidity (POL), accessible to our Solver and giving routes deeper and more persistent depth than the old model could support.

  • Centralized exchanges joining migration with the network shutdown coming alongside addition of SODA to the Kraken listing roadmap.

For ICX holders

If you've already migrated to SODA, nothing changes for you. If you haven't, the next eight months are the window. Step-by-step instructions to migrate self-custody ICX can be found below, and for ICX held on centralized exchanges, balances will be converted to SODA automatically once your exchange adopts the migration. We expect remaining centralized exchanges to announce their support this summer.

Thank you to every validator, builder, holder, and partner who carried ICON for nine years. The chain ends on December 31, 2026. The work it started is just getting started. For you all, we welcome you to continue being a part of SODAX’s future, with the new token and tokenomics under SODA.

Built for cross-chain

SODAX is the next generation of ICON DeFi

The ICON ecosystem has evolved into SODAX — a cross-chain execution layer for modern DeFi. Powered by solvers and intents, SODAX unifies liquidity across networks so you can swap, save, and borrow across any supported chain.
